A formerly abandoned and condemned apartment building near City Center. In 2010 MED purchased and fully gut-renovated the premises, creating a unique living environment for homeless female tenants. MED purchased the asset, financed all construction, and finalized development and transfer exclusively using its own funds, then turned the building over to DHS and N Street Village under a master lease. Mayor Vincent Gray performed the ceremonial ribbon-cutting in November 2011, saying this was “one of the finest examples of a public-private partnership” he had ever seen. The property continues to be successfully operated as a single room occupancy environment to this day.
